Large pods of Bottlenose and Common Dolphin are encountered on a regular basis throughout the year and are unique to Southern California waters, along with the abundance of whales. ![]() Killer whales and Humpback whales are viewed a little less often throughout the course of the year. ![]() This results in a prosperous whale watching industry able to operate year-round.įrequent summer and fall sightings include Blue whales, Finback whales, and Minke whales while winter and spring coincide with the famous Gray Whale migration that brings a lot of travelers to participate in whale watching near San Pedro. ![]() A deep underwater canyon accompanies the largely protected coastline and brings many types of marine life very close to shore. Our 2.5 hour long excursions depart from Newport Bay located beside one of the largest protected marine areas in all of Southern California, which stretches a little over 14 miles down to Dana Point.
